Thanks for your well wishes!
Matthew's temp got all the way up to 104 last night. Now he seems to be fine. I'm hoping to be able to send him to school tomorrow.
Aaron's running a slight temp now.... sigh...
Little Red Hen, sure hope you get over your cold soon!
Well, been to church. Time for an afternoon nap.
Coach Steve, we're having burgers for supper (from that black & white cow that kept getting loose this summer... that's another story! Anyway, it's nice organic beef.) Come on by! Be warned though... this is the flu zone!
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....
Living life to it's fullest... puttering around the kitchen... and raising a family in the beautiful Wyoming countryside!

This and that on Saturday...
Been relaxing today. Finshed reading my book. Sigh... the next one doesn't come out until this summer.
Matthew has that flu thing that's going around.... He's sleeping now.
Aaron's outside creating trails in the mud to make water move around. And jumping on melting ice. He'll most likely need a bath tonight.
Hmmm.. What to make for supper?
Oh, Aaron just came in to inform us that each of out kittens are up in trees... each in a different tree! Rich just went out to try to coax them down.
Hope that you had a nice day!

What's your favorite veggie?
We had a nice family meal tonight. Steak, baked potatoes, fresh raw broccoli, stir fried onions, mushrooms, and red peppers...
By the end of the meal, we were congoling Matthew to please eat his one sprig of broccoli while his brother happily ate several big pieces.
I asked the boys about their favorite vegetable. Matthew piped up quickly, after having just held his nose to chew down his broccoli... FRENCH FRIES!
Ah, the happy moments of family life!

From Boston to Wyoming....
Coach Steve was wondering how I came to be living here in Wyoming.... so far from my roots in the subburbs of Boston, Massachusetts.
Well, I married a cowboy. Rich grew up in this little town here in Northern Wyoming. We came to visit every couple years. But it wasn't until I had my oldest son... and saw him playing so freely here in the country.... that I began to have thoughts of relocating.
With each successive visit after that... secretly I would ponder if it was time for a change. I would say to myself... "could I live there?" It seemed that with each trip west, I would leave a piece of me there.
Then our second son was born. And watching my boys play there in the country with their cousins... And I began to fall in love with the fresh air... the quiet... the peacefulness... the mountains.... the charm of that little town.
Our little guy turned 4 years old. In one year he would be going into Kindergarten. That summer, I packed up my boys and traveled across country... we camped and had a wonderful adventure... arriving at grandma & grandpa's some 2500 miles away.
The purpose of this trip....
Could I live there in that tiny, country town? Could I live in Wyoming? It would be such a drastic change!
Maybe our family could live in the next biggest town. I drove endless hours around that town. The houses were so close together. I kept wondering why they would be so close when there was so much open country all around them.
No, the charm of the little town that my husband grew up in was what I really wanted.... a little country town complete with pastures, horses, cows, and chickens running around... and space to breathe.... and a town pool... and a park...
That trip was a turning point for me. I headed back home to Massachusetts but left my heart in northern Wyoming. I was sold. This was the life that I wanted for my family.
Now we head East in the summer. We visit all our friends, go to our favorite beaches, museums, and restaraunts. We get our fill of city life, then return home to the country.

Hello! It's going to be a busy day for me here in cowboy town.
It's the end of the month. Where did my month go? All of a sudden it's the last week of the month! Shoot!
I was in touch a good customer in Massachusetts yesterday. They are burried in snow. She told me that the kids haven't been back to school yet and as if the 2 1/2 feet of snow wasn't enough... there's snow drifts. And more snow coming their way today!
Does anyone remember the blizzard of 1978?
I've spent one whole year here in Wyoming now... after living my whole life in Massachusetts... in a subburb of Boston on the north side... The winters are not bad here! A little cold and a little snow... then the warmth of spring followed by beautiful dry long summer days.

Stocks?
I finally feel like I'm back into the swing of things... post sickies... post holidays...
My friend and I were out for a nice walk. It was a bright, sunny, springy day here. The warmth on my face from the sun felt so good! We took our favorite route out toward the country.
Is anyone interested in stocks? I've been reading the Big Risk, Big Reward blog. I've always been fascinated with this stuff, but really don't understand all the ins/outs or inbetweens (for that matter!). Check it out. Tell Jim that Toni sent you.
When I'm here in my study, getting my sewing done (I make breastfeeding pillows mostly sold here), I love to listen to the archived commentary of Jim Cramer at TheStreet.com.
I love all that finance stuff.

How can it be?...
A big welcome to Dreaming Again from Pearls and Dreams who found her way here from one of my favorite blogs, The Cheesebee Chronicles.
Check out this awesome sunset on Woody's site.
My house is quiet again.... with the kiddos off to school.
As my husband was reading a library book to our little guy (Aaron, age 7), I had the fleeting thought of how special this time is. I know that the time will come when I will miss the flurry of activity in the morning and books being read with one of the kids snuggled up next to me.
I don't know how it is that my oldest son (Matthew) will be turning 11 years old in March. 11.... He's getting so big! Almost as tall as me (I'm only 5'1").
Well, better go have some breakfast! And to begin my day. Got some Eastern US calls to make today and it's already 10am their time!
Hey, thanks you guys for your comments! Have a nice day.

a Salsa Garden?
A Salsa Garden. Got an email from Gurney's today...
Doesn't a salsa garden sound good?
My back entry way faces south. It is the perfect greenhouse in the Spring. Last year, I planted some 40 Roma tomato plants and a few cherrys.
It was my first Spring (and winter... for that matter) in northern Wyoming. I was so missing the color green. (In the Boston area, everything turns such a beautiful lush green in the early spring.) So, as the weather started getting warmer in late-February... my seed planting began.
Forty some pots with baggies on them to help keep the warmth and moisture in... grew into seedlings, then small plants until they were getting too big for my little south side porch.
Planting my many tomato plants was interesting. The ground was so hard! It was like cement! With the help of my husband... who dug 40 holes while I stuck the plants in the ground... After all was done, my father-in-law came by to tell us that we put the plants too close together.... Well....
We just left them that way. Yes, they were definitely too close!!!!!
Those tomatoes made yummy sauce! Many, many quarts of yummy sauce!
This year the garden will be tilled to loosen up the soil. And I won't be so stingy in plant spacing. Gosh, you would think that I was still living in the city!

Snow Fort and peanut butter cookies
It's a beautiful warm springish day here in northern Wyoming with temperatures in the mid-50s. (Sorry to all my Northeast friends who are getting a huge snow storm. I'll be sending along a few warm degrees to you.)
The kids are out in the pasture making a snow fort. Soon our snow will be all gone for now.
I'm going to take the kids some cookies and get some pictures.

My little indians are hovering around my computer room wondering what they can have for breakfast... AND... Mom, can we go to Taco Bell for lunch... PLEASE???
Have a fun Saturday with your family. I'll check in later.

796 visitors...
Will you be #800?
My husband put my #5 back on for me. But... it's not quite 100%, but better than a popcycle sick that Jay used to fix her space bar (see comments from last post).
It's Friday. Where does the time go?
Last night we had the most beautiful sunset. The sky was filled with pink clouds creating a wonderful pink hue as the sun set. It was just magical! This is what it looked like.

Get Away Day...
Good morning!
I spent most of the day yesterday in Billings, MT. My trip to the "BIG" city.
As a northern Wyoming resident, that's our place to go for Costco... and all the major stores and restaraunts.
It's 90 miles away, but really only takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes to get there. I was musing about the speed limit yesterday as I traveled 75mph (legally) on the route 90 interstate. Being from Massachusetts (northern, near Boston), you can't travel faster than 55mph... but mostly you're stuck in traffic so...
Around here when you're out of the little towns, you can travel 65mph in Wyoming, in Southern Montana (I've only been as far as Bozeman... so far!) the speed limit is 75mph on the 90 and 70 on the other roads.
I finally stopped into Coldwater Creek. I've been meaning to stop in for over a year now! I found a versatile black short sleeve dress and coordinated it with about 4 different jackets. What fun! Now I need some new black shoes!!!
It's going to be a home day today... Hope your day is warm, peaceful, and productive!

Spring Fever...
It's a balmy 34 degrees here in Cowboy town. We're going to have a heat wave as it's supposed to get up to 51! ... Now keep in mind that it was either below zero or in the single digits last week!
I might get a bit of spring fever.... get back into my walking routine... pull out my ever growing collection of seed catalogs and dream... and plan...
I'm off to the big city for the day. It's a 90 mile trip one way...
Have a great day!

The kids are back to school...
Ahhh.... Do you hear the quiet... the stillness... My kiddos are back to school.
I'm in the midst of sewing many breastfeeding pillows for a large order due the end of February. Got a bunch done yesterday... And finishing up quilt tops...
I've got a big roll of quilt batting somewhere in the garage. I need to find it today. I say somewhere because our stuff has been moved around a couple times since we settled here in Wyoming.
What's on your agenda today?

Kids home sick today...
Two sick kids home today... Think that I'll go back to bed too.
On the upside... we'll be having a heat wave here. It's going to get up to the mid 40s this week!
Thanks to all of you who wished for warmer weather for us while we were in the deep freeze!

-20 degrees!
Oh my goodness! It's * -20 * degrees here in Northern Wyoming. Burrr....
I let my kittens out last night. When the long haired kitty came in, he had icicles hanging on him. Poor thing!
Would someone please send us some warmth!

2005 Quilts in the year 2005...
Got another baby quilt top done last night.
Project Quilt...
The project is... 2005 Quilts in the year 2005...
There are 8 or 9 church congregations around here that have accepted the challenge to create over 200 quilts each. All quilts will be donated to the LDS Humanitarian Aid effort. They will be distributed where ever in the world that they are needed!
Rich has been cutting 6 1/2 inch squares out of my scrap fabric. So I have lots of squares to work with! I'm trying to decide what to back the quilts with....

Quilt top done.
Got the top of the baby quilt done. Got to iron it and decide what to do for the bottom. (I'll post a photo soon.)
Beef stew is simmering on the stove. I'm thinking about making some bread to go with it.
It's a chilly, blustery, snowy day here in northern Wyoming. It's been snowing all day, but there's not enough moisture in the air to let it accumulate to much. I'm from Boston and I'm used to getting lots of snow when I see fine flakes....

Good morning! The kids are off to school and my house is oh so quiet yet again!
My sweet husband has been cutting 6 inch squares out of my scrap fabric (from my breastfeeding pillow biz)for the past couple days. Last night I pinned a bunch of squares together for a baby quilt. Going to zip that up this morning.
Our church is doing a humanitarian aid project. Our goal is to make 2005 quilts in 2005! Whew...

Pizza's cooking...
Homemade! It smells so good.
Bubbling hot, crispy... Hmm.. The pizza came out pretty good tonight.
It's been cold here. But today the sun was shining nice and warm. Tomorrow is supposed to be below zero. Burrr...
I found the top of my desk today. Been doing some cleaning up and decluttering. I'm a terrible piler! Got to get ready for taxes....

Good morning Blog readers of the world...
The fog has rolled into our little town nestled in the Big Horn Basin of Wyoming. It reminds me of the East coast, that thick fog. It looks very mysterious and a bit magical out there.
It's day 10 of the new year. How's your resolutions holding up? It's amazing how life over-takes us!

Away goes my hat and my car door!
Went to Cody yesterday to get supplies for Aaron's birthday party. It was so windy!
I opened my door at Walmart and my hat flew off (it was really cold too!) and my car door swung open.
Now, it won't shut properly. Bummer!!!! I'm really upset... It's going to have to go to the shop to be fixed.
We're just back from Aaron's party with all 8 of his male classmates. Boy, do those kids like to run! Luckily we had the party at the church in the cultural hall (LDS church).
We're changing gears here from house building (it's too cold!) to pillow making.

Do you see the big smile on my face? It was time!!!
I'm getting ready to do some scrapbooking. I have a bunch of digital photos to get printed. Yes, it's just like that commercial... something's missing... my photos.

New Years Resolutions....
It's time for some....
What are my goals and dreams for this year? The year goes by so fast.
I've been thinking about this late at night. This is going to be a great year!
Some things that I'm looking forward to:
Finishing our new house...
Growing my business...
Becoming the ME that I see in my mind!
Have a fun New Years Eve! We'll be going to see National Treasure as a family at our little cinema... and playing some fun games together.
May 2005 bring your goals and dreams within your reach!

Those wonderful seed catalogs...
Matthew and I spent the afternoon together yesterday. We went for ice cream, then to see the movie, A Series of Unfortunate Events.
On Monday, Aaron and I spent the afternoon together. He couldn't wait to use his Walmart gift card from Nanny & Grampy. It was so much fun for me to see him employ his math skills as he had to decide what toys he would be able to purchase with his $25 gift card. Well, he has 3 cents left on his card when he was done!

During a special singing performance at church yesterday, my little guy asked me, "Who turned on the radio?"
The performer grew up in our little town, coming from a musical family. He graduated from Julliard and is now a teacher there.
What a treat!

The Flu bug strikes...
Look out! The flu bug has struck our house.
Last night it got Aaron and today Rich is running a temp and feeling achy. I'm going to have to order some more of this to help them feel better and get better fast. My friend Peg swears by this stuff.
Can't have everyone sick during Christmas break!!!! We've got to go "after Christmas shopping" and to the Buffalo Bill Museum and to the movies and...!
Off I go to start some chicken soup.
PS... we had such a nice Christmas (no one was sick yesterday!). There was way too much food, but it was so good! And there were way too many presents, no, there can't be too many of those!
How was your Christmas?

An Italian Christmas Eve...
Homemade manicotti, meatballs, stuffed peppers with salad and fresh brocolli. It's a tradition for us to have Christmas soup (Escarole Soup) but here in the wilds of Wyoming no one has heard of Escarole! So no soup...
To you and yours a very Merry Christmas!

Twas the day before Christmas when all through the house,
presents to be wrapped,
goddies yet to be baked,
and what to my wondering eyes do I see?
a pile of dishes awaiting attention from me!
Have a wonderful Christmas everyone!!!

Merry Christmas to you!
We have snow on the ground here in northern Wyoming. It was so beautiful to watch it come down yesterday.
The boys had a wonderful time sledding out at the farm yesterday. Today the coldest day of the year, they'll be swimming with a group through school. Burrr....
I'm looking forward to Christmas. I love to watch everyone open their gifts. Will Jennifer like the xxxxxx that I made for her? Will my brother and sister-in-law like the xxxxxx?
So many friends and neighbors have come by this week to wish us a Merry Christmas and to bring by a plate of goodies. It's been heart-warming!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...
I spent most of the day yesterday wrapping presents. It looks like Christmas here now. The balsam candle burned all day while Christmas carols played in the background. Neighbors kept knocking on the door... bearing little goodies.
I'm going to make some cranberry bread either today or tomorrow. That will make a nice little gift for friends and neighbors.
Wyoming life....
Yesterday it was real windy here. I went to the post office and had to fight with a tumble weed (the size of a bush) for my parking space.

It's a windy, snowy day here. We got a light dusting of snow. A white Christmas would be really nice!
Good morning friends. Today is the boys' last full day of school, followed by a half day on Tuesday... then Christmas break until the new year. So... I've got to get my presents wrapped TODAY! I've been going to do it at night, but then I start watching a Christmas special like Once upon a Christmas... then Twice upon a Christmas on Hallmark channel(which didn't get over until 1am!) and whammo... night gone.
Little town, Wyoming life...
Downtown the light poles are decorated with wrapped lights of various colors. Many of the homes are adorned with those blown up, lighted Snowmen or Snow families. There's this one little house near the lumber yard... that house with the sign, "DO NOT BLOCK DRIVEWAY", aptly has a Grinch at his front door. It's a funny site!
Well, I best be off to get my day rolling.

It's been a little while since my last post. I've been caught up in the wonder of the Christmas season.
Christmas cards are all done and sent along with an update on what our family's been doing over the past year.
There are still many unwrapped gifts. Tonight would be a good time for wrapping. I'm waiting to receive a few gifts that I ordered online.
Both kittens have been really good around the tree. Cuddles has been unwrapping Rich's gift. He like to tear paper... it seems. Speaking of our kittens. Fluffy was lost yesterday. The boys found him in one of the big cottonwood trees--way up high. After almost an hour of "coaxing", we finally got him down.
We continue to watch the Christmas shows on TV. Last night there was a nice one, I think that it was called An Angel in the Family. Matthew and I watched it together while I folded laundry and he folded socks (it was nice to have his help!).
No snow here. Actually, it's been pretty mild. Cold in the morning, but pleasant by afternoon. I hope that we have some snow for the kids during Christmas break!!!! Could anyone send us some?
I'm singing in the church choir today for our special Christmas program. Have a nice Sunday.

Just treated myself...
I'm back from treating myself to a highlight. In my mind, I'm blonde, but after having children my hair turned more of a brown with golden highlights with a few "silvery white" hairs hiding out.
I was just out looking at my wild flower garden and cut some seed pods into an envelope. I'm going to send some to my mother for her garden. Shhhh, Dad, don't tell her... it'll be in with her Christmas gifts.
I'm almost done with my Christmas cards. I ran out of cards and I think that I'll need more stamps too. You know, I just love receiving cards from family and friends. It's such a nice tradition to remember old friends... to keep in touch.... at least once a year.
I bought a pine scented candle that I just love. It reminds of Christmas Eve service at the Protestant church where I attended with my family as a child. Every Christmas they would decorate the chapel pews with pine bows and red candles. It was just magical! There were big arched windows adorned with red velvet curtains and in between them were fresh pine wreaths. But the wonderful smell of pine.... hmmmm... it means Christmas to me!
Have a wonderful day! Remember to breathe and to enjoy these last few days before Christmas... even through the hectic scheduling... and shopping... and....

We put up our little fresh Christmas tree last night. It looks pretty with its multi colored lights and paper chains.
I'm going to get some candy canes to go on the tree today.
Unfortunately, our ornament box didn't make the move across country. It must still be in my parent's basement. :(...
Today...
Wrap Mom & Dad's gifts (they need to be mailed across country!)
Make some more xxxxxx (I can't say because the gift recipients might read this! Sorry!)
When is the DISH FAIRY coming, the one that magically does the dishes for me? That's what I want for Christmas!

The mystery of the "unwrapped" gift...
Oh Oh... somehow... one of the kids' Christmas gifts got "unwrapped!" Maybe one of the kitties did it!?!
The other night, Rich and I were watching TV when down tumbled the gifts that I had stacked up. Off running went the mischievous kitty.

Clam Chowder and California Rolls (Sushi)
It's that time of year! I have Christmas music playing in the background as I write this post.
It's become a tradition at our house to have home made Clam Chowder sometime during this season. Tonight we're going to a family Christmas party. I have no idea if Rich's Wyoming relatives will enjoy our New England Clam Chowder as much as we do!
We all had some for lunch. It is soooo good!
I just finished making California Rolls (our version of sushi). Some of these will go with us to this party. Rich and I may be the only ones to eat it.
When I lived in the Boston area, I had a friend from Japan named Keiko. I sure miss her!
She showed a bunch of us how to make this yummy treat.
My neice came over to while I was getting the sushi ready to make. She enjoyed making them but just couldn't get past the nori wrapper.
Next week is Christmas cookie week. I'm still thinking about what we'll make.
What delicious things do you make during this season? Anyone want to share?

Christmas gift making with the kids.
Today I got together my niece, nephew, my boys, and Matthew's friend to make some pot holders for as Christmas presents.
I cut the fabric and cotton batting, then sewed 3 sides. They sewed up the 4th side and quilted a design in the center of each pot holder.
I think that we'll made this a new tradition. Next Friday is Christmas cookie day.
Time to watch ABC Family or Halmark channel. Hope that there's a good Christmas show on tonight. I was up until (almost) 12am last night watching a show on ABC Family... only to fall asleep during the last 5 crutial minutes of the show. Darn!

A friend from town sent me this awesome Christmas card. She custom made it through Shutterfly.
It's a picture of her 4 sons on horse back, each in their cowboy hats, with the sun setting behind them. What a great card!
I've got to get my Christmas cards going. It's so much to recieve cards. I like to hang my cards along the door ways--they add to the festive feel of the house.

We were turning into shaggy monsters so...
Off we went to our local hair stylist for a well needed hair "adjustment."
Matthew & Aaron had each, with their cousin's help(!), cut their own hair. Grandma was babysitting. They all must have been upstairs and VERY QUIET (and sneaky like...)
The craziness continues...
Note to myself...
Are you remembering to BREATHE?

Started cleaning my....
I've got a couple Christmas projects that MUST be started (actually... and finished!) this week. So I started cleaning a spot in my office (which is actually a sewing room/computer room/business office).
Shocked by what he saw... my husband (who is the organizer of the family) looked at me with unbelief and asked WHAT I WAS DOING!
LOL! Hey, I do clean and organize sometimes!

Mom, how many more days till Christmas?
Good morning! I was away all day yesterday. When I finally entered my house it was time to cook supper. I didn't even get to my computer again until 12am...
Sorry that I missed my post yesterday. Hmmm... Maybe you're crazy busy like me.
I've been really enjoying the Christmas specials on Hallmark channel. I suggested to my husband that there should be a Christmas channel... Here's the slogan, "All Christmas movies, All the time." He just rolled his eyes!
Off to my busy day.
Note to myself:

Cowboys on 4 wheelers...
I was on my way to Billings (again! It's starting to be an every Saturday time thing. Had to go back to JoAnn Fabrics and use yet another 50% off coupon... got another one for Dec. 11, too.)
Up ahead I noticed some traffic. Now, usually there isn't any traffic at this intersection. Honestly, I'd say that I've yet to experience true "traffic" here in Wyoming/Montana. Don't forget... I'm from Boston!
There at the cross road I spied a bunch of cars which looked like a traffic jam...
No, not a traffic jam... but a bunch of cars waiting for cowboys on 4 wheelers to move the herd of cows across the road.

More about Wyoming...
I remember camping with my parents as a child in Maine. It would be pitch black. My brother and I would be laying in the grass looking up at the beautiful star filled sky.
We had never seen a night sky so filled with dotted lights.
Many years later, on trips to Wyoming to visit my husband's family.... Rich and I would go for walks at night so that I could see the light filled sky.
It is breathe-taking to stand in the quiet of the black night and look toward the heavens.... filled with an infinite number of sparkling stars. The moon looks so close here. I feel like I could just reach out and touch it sometimes. It is the biggest moon I have ever seen.
I am a transplanted Boston-suburbia city girl, now, in the wilds of northern Wyoming. I marvel at the richness of the nature that surrounds me! I'm like a little girl with wide-open eyes standing in awe at a the landscape that layes before me.

Mom, what color eyes does Santa have?
Aaron got to sit on Santa's lap at the party last night. He keenly observed that santa had blue eyes.
This morning he spied the paper on the couch with a picture of Santa. He said, Mom... That Santa has brown eyes... not blue...
Then he proceeded to tell me about a gift that he had seen at Grandma's that was labeled FROM SANTA... But Mom... it was before Christmas!

I attempted...
Well, I attempted to make carmel popcorn balls. I think that my recipe was missing several crutial steps! Help Busymom!
Burr... we're in the deep freeze here.
It feels so cold here today. The humidity must be higher than normal. Burrrrr...
Got to go decide what to make for the town Holiday Party. It's got to be a desert. Got any good ideas? Maybe

Down a winding dirt road...
It's a chilly morning here in northern Wyoming. Just 17 degrees. Burrr.
Grandpa gave the boys a ride to school this morning. They didn't even fight with me to take their bikes.
Yesterday I visited with a friend who lives further out in the country but still within the boundaries of this little town. Down a winding dirt road...
The view of the Pryor Mountains from her home is breathe-taking! What pretty country it is there. Her black angus cows were grazing in the pasture with the foothills in the horizon and snow capped mountains further off.

Dec 1st... 24 days left!
Happy December 1st friends,
Suddenly, I'm feeling overwhelmed with lots of stuff. I think that I feel this way every December. When will I learn to begin things early?
My mom is so good about planning things out... and getting things done ahead of time. Why didn't any of that rub off on me? I'm more the layed-back type.... always thinking that there's plenty of time... Sighhhh... Works for me most of the year!
Matthew's back to school today. His teacher sent him homework yesterday. He said that he was going to school "no matter what" today. Guess that the way it goes... is that if he doesn't finish his work at school... it becomes homework.
Well, I'm just happy the he's feeling better.

Homemade Christmas gift idea
I'm about ready to begin making some Christmas gifts.
I've got fleece hats in mind...
I was searching the web for some free patterns and came across this link:

Just perfect!!@!
Happy sewing!
Anyone else planning on making something special? I love homemade gifts. I just wish that I got mine started earlier in the year!

Last day of November...
Well, here it is the last day of November!
I feel very unprepared for Christmas this year. All my decorations are in a box somewhere in the garage... The garage where all the extra stuff went that won't fit in our little cozy cottage. Christmas tree stand... hmmm...
This Saturday, I'd like to get a little tree. "Little" because it needs to fit in our little cozy cottage.
Now, what's going to be really interesting, will be the dynamics added by our two 7 month old kittens... Who are truly country kitties... striking out at anything that wiggles.
Matthew's home sick today. It's a stomach thing. I just spoke with the secretary at school, seems that the flu is going around. YES, of course! Just in time for the holidays!
I was prepared this time with my sick kid survival kit.
OK, the day is passing me by... time to get going!

Just back from the Big city...
Matthew and I went to the "BIG" city for some shopping. The BIG city is Billings, Montana... always an all day event!
It was nice to spend some one-on-one time with Matthew... that is... after he got over the... Mom, can I get.... ??? He desperately wants an electric scooter. Me... I'm not ready for him to have "wheels"... except the kind that he pedals.
Got a few Christmas presents. Time to begin wrapping and hiding the presents!
Used my 50% off coupon at JoAnn's Fabrics. I ordered 100 yards of this really cool fabric. I'll post a picture of it tomorrow (my eyes are ready to close!)
Stopped by Toys R Us. We just looked... they have a few electric scooter things.
Walmart..... more fabric.... kitty food... presents....
The day ended at Krispy Kreme. Matthew was mezmerized(did I spell that right?) by the donut making process. Man do they make good donuts. Home we came with our "almost" dozen.

The rolls were a big hit!
Everyone enjoyed my Lion House Rolls!
Light and moist crescent shape rolls. They were good!
Light and moist crescent shape rolls. They were good!
- Richard had one right out of the oven and said... Mmmm.
- Matthew informed me after Thanksgiving dinner that he had eaten 12 of my "snail" rolls.
- Aaron gave them a rating of 10 out of 10 (10 being really good!). The grin on his face... priceless!
Hmmm... Got to go to my mother-in-laws for a piece of her cherry pie. She makes the BEST crust!
Dough is rising
Got dough rising in the oven for Crescent Rolls. I'll post the recipe later.
Now to peal the squash & yams and get them cooking.
Have a great Thanksgiving.

Twas the Night of Thanksgiving...
A friend dropped by to wish me a Happy Thanksgiving and shared this poem...
I laughed and laughed!
Twas the night of Thanksgiving, but I just couldn't sleep. I tried counting backwards, I tried counting sheep. The leftovers beckoned-- The dark meat and white, but I fought the temptation with all of my might!
Tossing and turning with anticipation.... The thought of a snack became infatuation... So I raced to the kitchen, flung open the door, and gazed at the fridge full of goodies galore. I gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes, pickles and carrots, beans and tomatoes...
I felt myself swelling so plump and so round, till all of a sudden, I rose off the ground!!
I crashed through the ceiling, floating into the sky.... with a mouthful of pudding and a handful of pie.
But I mangaed to yell as I soared past the trees....

Happy Eating to All--Pass the Cranberries Please!
May your stuffing be tasty,
May your turkey be plump,
May your taters 'n gravy have nary a lump!
May your yams be delicious, May your pies take the prize,
May your Thanksgiving Dinner stay off of your thighs!!!
Happy Thanksgiving!

What are you having for Thanksgiving meal?
Our tradition is to have Turkey, stuffing(my favorite!), mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, squash, fresh vegetable tray, rolls, jellied cranberry sauce and pies... usually pumpkin and apple.
My parents are having roast beef this year! That's a break from tradition!
If you're heading out of town today... away from your computer...
Happy Thanksgiving to you!
The History Channel website has a nice video clip about the History of Thanksgiving.

Have you visited Frog Pond? Great pictures of life on a family farm. Neat stories about animals...
I'm learning to be a country girl. I've lived all my life in the subburbs of Boston. Now, we live in northern Wyoming... in a little town that's not even large enough to warrant a mail man.
But, that's OK! I have 3 horses in the pasture behind my house... and black angus cows down the street... and I own 2.8 acres of quiet. Someday soon, maybe I'll have some chickens... Mostly I just love the quiet!
Tonight was our last class for Love & Logic. I've really enjoyed this parenting class. I've found out that:

Tonight was our last class for Love & Logic. I've really enjoyed this parenting class. I've found out that:
- my parenting style (up till 6 weeks ago!) was that of a DRILL SARGENT. (YIKES!)
- giving choices like "Do you want to go to bed with the light on or off?", gives my kids some control... AND gets them thinking (instead of arguing!)
- I have a lot MORE TO LEARN!
Time for bed! Thanks for stopping by!
Our Walmart flyer came...
The Pony Express delivered our Walmart day after Thanksgiving flyer yesterday.
Is it just me or is the flyer... not really exciting this year?
that Venturer 2-screen DVD player on page 1 is kinda neat! And, can you believe that the Game Boy Advance is only $39.93 this year?
Anyway, we'll be getting up early, early, early... to go! Anyone else fighting the crowds the "day-after?"

First Snow!
My boys were so excited this morning to see snow on the ground.
There's really only just enough to cover the ground.
Matthew was plotting a snowball fight... and thinking about how much fun it would be to ride his bike in the snow.
Guess it's time to dig out snow boots!
It sure does look pretty out there. I'll have to take a picture!

Pockets...Snow... Rocks
Put some of the boys clothes in the washer this morning.
Here's what I found in pockets:
-Golf Ball
-Yugioh card protector
-Small (but important) rocks
-Candy wrappers...
It's an overcast day here. Looks like snow... just waiting to come down. The mountains are all covered. We were to Cody,Wyoming on Saturday. They had snow on the ground! None for us... yet!
The boys helped us down the property on Saturday. We're moving pit run (river rock and gravel) around the footings.
Aaron's version of helping..
-Examining rocks... looking for jade and fossils. He came home with a collection of jade, fossilized wood, and some other "pretty" rocks.

Had some yummy authentic Mexican food last night. This little restaraunt makes really good tamales.
Are you making any Christmas presents this year? I've really got to get into gear!
I'm thinking about getting the kids together to make pot holders.... there's never enough of those little things around!

Only in Wyoming...
We got a flat (it was a new tire!) on our truck recently. Rich was working in the dark and hit a stump with a sharp branch.
No problem... Put the spare tire on... No problem(learned to use this phrase from my Love & Logic class.)
Next morning... flat tire on spare...
Took the tire to the Basin Tire shop. They had just sold the last set of tires that matched our tread. So they said, Would you like us to put on a used? Come on back next week and we'll have the tires in stock... and we'll take care of it for you.
OK. Great!!! Didn't ask my name or anything... put the used tire on... put the tire in the van... off I went.
I was so surprised! Things like this ONLY happen in the country, right?
Anyway, it was really nice. Now... got to go back to Basin Tire.

Pony Express...
Guess Kate & I are the only ones who have a favorite Thanksgiving dish. Thanks for the comment Kate!
It's Friday. Wonder what's playing at the movies?
Friday night has typically been date night for Rich and I. It's nice to have a night dedicated to us... without the kiddos...
Would love some good Mexican food.
Hey, when is my Walmart day-after-Thanksgiving flyer going to arrive? Anyone else get their copy? Our TV has been on the blinks... for a while now...
As a matter of fact... When you come to our house... you get to watch PART TV. No... it's
HALF TV. It's very special... LOL!
We're holding out for the big TV sale that Walmart has the day after Thanksgiving. Maybe my flyer is coming by Pony Express.

What's Your Favorite Thanksgiving Dish?
Took my 2 black kittens to the Vet this morning. They are 6 months old. It's time...
I added the weather back to my side bar. You can even check your weather there.
It's a bit chilly today. By this afternoon it will be good walking weather.
Thanksgiving's next week. I'm in charge of homemade rolls, squash, green bean casserole...and ???

quiet day
The kids are at school. Hubby is off to do some shopping. The house is very quiet.
Dishes are done. Laundry is in process.
Matthew found the stash of girl scout cookies the other day when trying to reach our big mixing bowl. Down came the sugar from the top of the microwave. Thin mints next.... and yes the mixing bowl too.
The vacuum is calling me...
Soon I'll be out for my walk. I'm really looking forward to a nice walk down the canal path.
It's a bright sunny day here in the 60s.
Tonight is our Love & Logic class. While doing dishes I was listening to one their tapes on chores. Hmmm... Parenting is such a learn as you go thing. Wouldn't it be great if each kid came with their own specific parenting manual?

Footings done!!! Pizza's cooking!
Footings are done! What a relief!
Got homemade pizza cooking... smells good! Cheese for the kids... pepperoni & mushroom for Rich & I.
Why homemade pizza? I sure miss Prince Pizza on route 1 in Saugus, Massachusetts. They had the BEST pizza. Light crispy crust... hmmm. Anyone been there?
Haven't been able to find a good pizza out here... yet... So... I guess I'll have to keep practicing till I get my homemade pizza the way I love it.
Anyone got a really, really good pizza crust recipe that they're willing to share?

New walkway...
Footings are done!
We had some extra cement so we ran down to our little house... put together some forms for a walkway to my back door.
Oh what an improvement that's going to be!!!! It was just a dirt walkway to the back door... you can imagine what kind of mud and dirt gets tracked into the house on little feet (actually... I have a !TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF! policy here).
Anyway... the walkway is only partially complete... next cement run...
Time for a well deserved bubble bath!

Cement... part 2
We'll be getting more cement for the footings today.
Man cement work... is hard labor! I'll be helping for a while today.
It will be a joy to return to my computer... and kitchen later today.
Got to get the family up and rolling for school.

Made Potato Soup...
It's been a busy day. I made Best Ever Potato Soup before church this morning.
The aroma was a welcome greeting as I entered the house just a bit ago.
This is the season of soup! I just love soup... I could eat it every day... all year round. But... my family is not as enthuiastic about my passion.
Have a nice Sunday.

cooking...
Well, that' the last of my garden fresh tomatoes! They're simmering on the stove in a beautiful sauce with onion, garlic, and dried basil from herb garden. The house smells really good!
I just finished the dishes too. My husband came over to see what I was doing (hand washing dishes is my least favorite chore!) and... low and behold... the dishes were all done. His comment... Wow!
I can't stand my kitchen floor anymore! It's got to be done today too!!!
Thoughts of Spring...
Remember to plant:
Onions
More Basil
Yukon Gold Potatoes
Spoke with my mom this morning. They've got snow there in southern New Hampshire and Boston... my old stomping ground got 3-4 inches. Hmmm...
No snow here. Actually we're having a very nice Indian Summer. Gosh, I'll have to post the weather thingy on my blog again. Kinda miss it.
Gotta go stir the sauce and get ready for my day...

It's early morning...
Good morning...
I got up pretty early this morning. Everybody's still asleep. The house is so nice and quiet!
It was good to get out last night. Good food, good movie, and good company.
I've been craving some chinese food all week... hmmm. crispy egg rolls... chicken on a stick... seasame chicken(one of my favorites!) No Duck Sauce to dip my egg rolls in though... They don't have any Duck Sauce! Is this a western thing?
Have you seen Polar Express? My 10 year old son gave it 3 stars out of 5. I thought it was pretty good. The roller coaster train ride was thrilling... and those trestle bridges were pretty incredible...

Learned how to...
Been out to the property past 2 days...
Did I mention that we're building a house?
Learned how to run the saw.
Here's my entry all about that. http://howsthehouse.blogspot.com/2004/11/cement-truck-comes.html
It's been really nice out. I've enjoyed being outside.
Tonight. Date night.
Been craving chinese food. There's a pretty good place near the movie theater. Buffet style.
Going to the movies too. Polar Express.
Got to go rest before the Indians find me. :)

Do you have a bull in your family?
Oh what a morning...
Aaron's bull horns came out just after breakfast.
He wanted to take his kitten to school for his "show & tell." We said no for today... but yes for next week if his teacher said that it was all right....
Well... some Love & Logic was employed.... choices were given...
Anyway... he ended up going to school without his jacket (his choice... it's 30 something...) on his bike by himself.
Mental note to myself:
Review Love & Logic workbook for more ideas.
Listen to audio tape entitled "Didn't I tell you to take out the trash?"
Remember to breathe, drink water, and get that walk in today!

The birth of an Amateur Photograph...
Wow! Have you been to Busy Mom's site lately? She's got this really cool new format.
I started framing some of my 8x10 photos. The one of my Halloween kitten is so cool! I just put up the one of the sunset with the tree in the foreground. The colors are incredible!
I'll tell you... having a digit camera is just so much fun. I have this little one... it's small enough that I take it with me everywhere. Hey... you never know when the perfect photo opportunity will arise... like my Halloween Kitty photo.
When I was hmmm maybe 12 years old, my Uncle was visiting us at the cottage we had rented in Eastern Maine (on a lake). He brought his Minolta 35mm camera with him.... and was taking photos of this pretty setting.
He took the time to show me how to work his camera and let me take a few pictures... an Amateur Photographer was born that day!
Got to go help Rich get the footings ready.... so that we can pour concrete this week.

Summer memories...
Just back from my walk. It's been almost a week since my last one and... I feel it!!!
I'm beginning to think about Christmas. I'd like to take a family photo for our Christmas postcards.... hmmm... where is my tripod?
I finally downloaded all my digital pictures taken since this summer. Ran out of space! 244 pictures... I really, really love my digital camera!!!!!
Took some great pictures of the kids at the beach back home in Massachusetts. There is this wonderful place in Beverly, called Lynch Park. It's got lots of rolling green fields, a rose garden, a sandy & rocky beach, a couple playgrounds... and an ice cream shop. (Anybody been there?)
It's one of our favorite places back home.

this and that...
Just added an entry to our house building adventure blog, if you want to check that out.
It's a beautiful sunny day out there...
I haven't been out for my walks for a couple days. I sure miss that. Need to get back in gear...
Hmmm. I used to have a recipe for this chicken-on-a-stick with peanut sauce. Got to find that... can't remember the name or I'd google it out. It's one of Matthew's favorites. I haven't made it for a long time!
OK... with Google's help... Here's the name... Chicken Satay. It is soooo good!!!

I'm looking forward to my walk today. It's a beautiful sunny day here. Gosh.. it feels like it's been overcast for days....
I worked the polls on Tuesday
I'm an Election Judge for our little town. It was a long day on Tuesday! We worked from 6am-9:30pm.
The majority of our little town came out to vote! We could have used at least 2 more voting machines.
It was an enjoyable, high energy day.
Sorry for no entries the past couple days!!! Yesterday, I was just plum worn out...

One of my favorite places...
Went for a walk today with my friend along the path by the canal. It's a soft dirt road that meanders past a farm with big rolled haystacks, past a forest of Russian Olive trees, and through the open country of undeveloped land.
There's an old piece of farm equipment near the haystacks. Being a transplanted city girl... I'm not really sure what it's used for. But, it's intriquing sitting there...
The mountain ranges are snow covered creating new views of crevases and slopes. We can feel the dampness on our faces as we walk along...
A hawk circles above the farm. A beautiful blue bird flutters by landing in a nearby tree.
We are surrounded by the quiet of wild open land.
This is becoming one of my favorite places.
